Tulsa made his start playing for small clubs in St. Louis and Kansas City. He soon gained the attention of the biggest music producers and record labels in the industry. His first big hit was “I Love You Baby” in 1933. In 1935, Tulsa had his first number one hit titled “I’m Allie with the Fringe On Top”. He went on to become one of the most famous entertainers of his time.

Tulsa is said to have died of a drug overdose in 1941 in Los Angeles. However, there is no record of his death and his body was never found. Some people believe that he faked his own death and went into hiding.
