Life’s Greatest Illusion
We all have the same notion of life and its purpose, but sometimes a reality of life offers a different perspective. Living our lives with a false sense of security creates a fantasy bubble protecting us from the harshness of the world. This misguided superiority is, in reality, life’s greatest illusion.
The Illusion of Control
The illusion of believing that we can control every aspect of our lives is deeply rooted in our psyche and it has been that way since the dawn of time. We think that by being organized and prepared we can ‘control’ our future and ignore the reality that life changes constantly and we were never in the position to control it.
The Illusion of Happiness
Something we’re all searching for at an unconscious level is the feeling we get when everything is right in our lives. This is another illusion as there will always be something to disrupt the balance and without limits to our expectations happiness can become impossible to reach.
The Illusion of Perfection
We all believe that if we work hard and build a perfect life, we will be content. Unfortunately, this is an unattainable goal as some aspects of our lives can never be perfect. We need to accept that life is full of imperfection and that’s part of the beauty.
The Illusion of Certainty
Our greatest protection is the illusion of certainty, it’s the life vest that keeps us from being overwhelmed by uncertainty. Uncertainty can paralyze us with fear, insecurity and anxiety, so we wrap ourselves in a protective bubble of certainty as it is the only thing that brings us comfort.
It’s true that life’s greatest illusion is that of control and security, but it’s also its strength. Learning to accept the illusion and understanding our limitations will help us live in peace. We need to learn how to let go and allow ourselves to become part of the unpredictability of life. Then we can fully experience the surprise of discovering the beauty of life’s wonderful mystery.
